The rest house has two rooms that can accommodate only four people at once. Takapuna Rest House also has a shower and flush toilet.

Nothing is a problem, with good customer service from the local house staff. You don’t need to cook, because the staff will provide everything for you. You can just sit back and enjoy the local way of living with a touch of adventure.

Culture and history

The cultural information centre at Takapuna Rest House is where you can come to learn the history and culture of Ranongga and the wider Western Province. You will also be given the opportunity to visit the old tambu sites and watch some very rare bird species around Ranongga. Visitors can see first-hand how locals are reviving the old tapa cloths, and watch traditional dancers from Ranongga perform live. See how to make a traditional cooking oven and how bamboo is used for cooking. Visit Mount Koritinu, where visitors will see all the historical sites and experience a rare adventure tour that takes about 3 hours.

Your tour guide is Mr Kenneth Roga. Mr Roga has worked for the Western Province as a culture officer for 20 years, and closely with the British Museum. He has a wealth of experience with culture and history, so can offer you a trip you’ll never forget.

Tours and activities

Your host, Denver, can arrange all tours during your stay. There is a crocodile sightseeing area on Ranongga just 15 minutes’ drive from Takapuna, and bush walks to see the different species of birds and the wild pigs in Ranongga’s forest — very unique things for visitors to come and see.

Fishing is one of the biggest leisure activities here. Bring your own fishing gear and come and enjoy the local fishing spots.
